Call for Papers

The 2019 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2019) will be held on November 4 – 8, 2019 in The Venetian Macao, Macau, China. The IROS is one of the largest and most impacting robotics research conferences worldwide. It provides an international forum for the international robotics research community to explore the frontier of science and technology in intelligent robots and smart machines. In addition to technical sessions and multi-media presentations, IROS conferences also hold forums, workshops, tutorials, exhibits, competitions and technical tours to enrich the fruitful discussions among conference attendees.

Under the theme of "Robots Connecting People", prospective authors are invited to submit high-quality papers representing original results falling under the theme, as well as in all areas of intelligent robot components, systems, and applications. Please submit papers via the customary PaperPlaza process, follow the format guidelines, and use the templates available in LaTeX and MS Word. Papers should be six pages in length, with up to two extra pages at the cost of US$180 per extra page. A short video (1-minute maximum) can also be sent later on, attached to your paper.

All papers are reviewed using a blind review process: authors declare their names and affiliations in the manuscript for the reviewers to see, but reviewers do not know each other's identities, nor do the authors receive information about who has reviewed their manuscript.  Best paper awards in various categories as detailed on official IROS website will be selected.

Instruction for Authors and Submission

All papers must be written in English and submitted electronically in PDF format via PaperPlaza. Papers submitted to IROS 2019 undergo a peer-review process. Manuscripts will be reviewed by at least two reviewers, who will give detailed comments and – if the submission gets accepted – the authors submit a revised ("final paper") version that takes into account this feedback. The review process is managed by the IROS Conference Paper Review Board (CPRB).

In order to submit a contributed paper to IROS 2019, please follow the customary electronic submission process via PaperPlaza. In a nutshell, you are going to submit a PDF that has to conform to the manuscript preparation guidelines. In particular, you should use the provided templates – see support for LaTeX and MS Word – and check the PDF for compliance within PaperPlaza. The file size is limited to 6MB. Prior to the submission, the PDF file should be checked for PDF Xpress compliance.

In addition, you can submit a short single video along with your manuscript, for instance to demonstrate your experimental results. (You may upload or re-upload video attachment until 4 days after the submission deadline March 1, 2019.) Authors are encouraged to do so. Use one of the following formats: mpg, mpeg or mp4. The resolution can be chosen freely. The file size is limited to 10MB, and 1-minute length.

Final papers (for accepted papers) are expected to be six pages long, but you can have up to eight pages if you pay a surcharge of US$180 per extra page. It is generally a good idea to respect these page limits at the time of initial submission. When you upload the final version of an accepted paper, you will also have to provide a short summary that will serve to compile the conference digest.

IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L) with IROS Option

IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L) with IROS Option will be launched at IROS 2019. Information about paper submission to RA-L with IROS Option can be found at http://www.ieee-ras.org/publications/ra-l. Decision of RA-L with IROS Option and decision of RA-L is independent.

Please follow the RA-L submission process on PaperPlaza for IEEE RA-L Submission and select Submission for RA-L and IROS. Please do not follow the IROS 2019 submission process.

Presenting Transactions on Robotics (T-RO) Paper at IROS 2019

Any IEEE Transactions on Robotics (T-RO) paper, other than communication items and survey papers, is eligible to be presented at IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) 2019, provided most of the key ideas of the paper have never appeared at a conference with a published proceedings (i.e., the paper is a "new" paper and not the evolved version of a previous conference paper or papers).

To be eligible for IROS 2019, your paper’s final accepted manuscript must be submitted to T-RO for proofing between May 1, 2018 and April 30, 2019. Authors may not request any acceleration or delay of the review process based on these criteria.

Authors of eligible papers will be contacted by the T-RO Editor-in-Chief’s office to determine interest in presenting at a conference. Eligible papers may only be presented at one conference.

Detailed information can be found at http://www.ieee-ras.org/publications/t-ro.

Presenting Robotics & Automation Magazine (RAM) Paper at IROS 2019

Any IEEE Robotics & Automation Magazine (RAM) paper, is eligible to be selected for presentation at IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) 2019, provided most of the key ideas of the paper have never appeared at a conference with a published proceedings (i.e., the paper is a "new" paper and not the evolved version of a previous conference paper or papers).

To be eligible for IROS 2019, your paper’s final accepted manuscript must be submitted to RAM for proofing between May 1, 2018 and April 30, 2019. Authors may not request any acceleration or delay of the review process based on these criteria.

Authors of eligible papers will be contacted by the RAM Editor-in-Chief’s office to determine interest in presenting at a conference. Eligible papers may only be presented at one conference; i.e. RAM papers presented at ICRA 2019 are not eligible.
